• L'Université des Nations Unies a publié, en particulier par l'intermédiaire de son Institut des hautes études, plusieurs études contenant des informations sur la protection et l'exploitation durable de la diversité biologique marine au-delà de la juridiction nationale, dont un rapport intitulé The International Regime for Bioprospecting: Existing Policies and Emerging Issues for Antarctica (Le régime international pour la prospection biologique : politiques actuelles et questions nouvelles en Antarctique), et un autre intitulé Biosprospecting of Genetic Resources in the Deep Seabed: Scientific, Legal and Policy Aspects34 (Prospection biologique des ressources génétiques dans les grands fonds marins : aspects scientifiques, juridiques et politiques).
